OCPO Major Crime Unit Det. Mitchell Remig reports that on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 0830 hours, investigators returned to the scene at 35 Brower Drive in Brick, NJ, to conduct the origin and cause investigation in reference to the fatal structure fire.  At that time, the Pioneer Hose Company was on scene suppressing small fires and hot-spots which developed throughout the night inside the structure.  Technical Rescue Teams from Berkeley and Brick Township were requested to stabilize the structure to ensure investigator safety during the investigation.

After completing all scene physical evidence, citing safety reasons, the structure had to be razed due to the extent of fire damage and instability of the exterior walls.  The Ocean County Road Department sent a crew with heavy equipment to complete this task, preventing further damage or injury to the surrounding structures and residents.

At this time investigators are not releasing any information regarding the cause and origin of the fire.  The investigation results are pending a post mortem examination and follow-up interviews.   The victims are identified as Robert Kanwisher (74 – Deceased) and his wife Debra Kanwisher (63 – Recovering).  The couple’s dog has not been located at this time.
