Prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit Det. Melissa Matthews arrested Gaudencio Cruz Martinez, 24, of Lakewood for Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The investigation by the partnering detectives alleges that Martinez committed sexual assault upon the now 14 y/o female victim, who is known to him, as far back as the age of 13. Based on the investigation, Sr. AP Terry Linardakis approved the above charges leading to Martinez’s arrest late yesterday (9/3) evening. Bail was set by the Honorable Wendel E. Daniels at $75,000 with no 10% option. A no victim contact order and Nicole’s Law were implemented. Accordingly, ICE was notified. The defendant was remanded to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.
The media and public are reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that these defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
